The building needed extensive repairs, including restoration of the roof structure, beams, walls and floors.
Read here about how Eriks Ställningar worked with HAKI to find creative solutions to address the challenges of Kabomhuset.

Rich heritage and unique challenges
Alingsås Municipality is transforming the historic Kabomhuset into a modern municipal office and that has brought the building’s rich heritage and unique challenges into light. Originally constructed as part of the KABOM textile factory, the site was a key player in Alingsås’ industrial boom during the early 20th century. Over the decades, the building has served as a factory, a gym, and music rehearsal spaces, making it a cultural landmark in the city. However, time had left its mark, and the property’s protected status required careful restoration.
Bespoke scaffolding solutions
Kabomhuset needed extensive repairs, including the restoration of the roof structure, rafters, walls, and flooring. Erik’s Ställningar was entrusted with providing the scaffolding and weather protection necessary to preserve the structure and ensure the work proceeded smoothly and securely.
Old buildings often reveal surprises, and Kabomhuset was no exception. Its uneven walls and fragile framework required bespoke scaffolding solutions. Eriks Ställningar collaborated with HAKI to design and install a customised weather protection system that kept the project completely dry, even during Alingsås unpredictable weather.
– “This building required creative solutions, as the façade and framework couldn’t support the weight of the scaffolding and roof protection. We installed robust support scaffolds in the courtyard and even added a traffic tunnel to stabilise the structure in order to reduce the strain on the fragile buildings” explains Erik Eriksson.
– “We made thorough preparations and involved both the contractor’s engineers and our team from the start. By collaborating and addressing challenges together, we ensured a seamless process,” says Joakim Ljunglide.
During the Kabomhuset renovation, HAKITEC 750 weather protection system with HAKI Trak ensured that the historic building remained completely dry, enabling smooth progress despite challenging conditions. However, not everything went as planned during the assembly – a temporary fall protection line made of strap material on the roof ridge became a noise issue during a spring storm.
– “It sounded like a drum band was rehearsing on the roof! We quickly replaced it with a steel wire, and since then, the weather protection has kept the entire project dry and on track,” Erik explains with a smile.
The aim is that the project should be finished in 2026 and hopefully Kabomhuset will stand as a symbol of Alingsås commitment to preserving its past while adapting for the future.
